Geoff this looks like the one mentioned in after the battle issue 61 as in the imperial war museum in Londen. The picture in this magazine (page 18 below) has many similarities with the one you shown here.

I'm wondering about the original location of the spread-wing eagle shown in those excellent photos posted by Martin (thanks, Martin!). It is not the eagle in the Imperial War Museum or the eagle now in the USA, or (apparently) the eagle that was over the doorway inside Hitler's office (the head faces the wrong way). So where, inside the Reichskanzlei, was this particular eagle located? Or did I understand wrong? Maybe it came from some other building?

Thanks Geoff!

The author (Vladimir B. Ulianov) states that the bronze eagles as exhaustively documented in his book, are coming from the Reichskanzlei, this was, together with the "Führerbunker", the MAIN target for the line troops of the NKVD & "SMERSh". They had special orders to look out for Hitler and the main personalities of the IIIrd Reich. That's also why they rushed everything they laid their hands on from the Reichskanzlei ASAP to Moscow in order to be the first ones in the ratrace for Berlin.

Ulianov shows super exclusive items belonging to Hitler, Schaub, von Ribbentrop and Göring, all brought to Moscow. And, I'm sure, there was many more that "disappeared" into the hands of the Russian liberators... Hiden from Stalin & the NKVD...

Thats interesting, as David Irving, whilst on the trail of the Goebbels diaries happened upon Guenches uniform, and Schaub when he was given access to some of the Moscow archive,, he said he didnt tell the soviets at the time less they make a big issue out of them

I do remember going into the issue of the eagles' heads pointing in different directions a couple of years ago. I had the vague idea that there was an eagle outside Hitler's office - Geoff's second photo - with the head pointing right and another on the other side of the door with the head pointing left. However, I've just spent half an hour trying to find evidence of this and can't so I may well be mistaken.

Ah, who knows what treasures the Russians have hidden away in their archives? Those photos are awesome, Martin, and I, for one, would love to see the photos of AH's gifts...if you start another thread, be sure to reference it's link here!

ss obergruppenfuhrer julius schaub was captured near berchtesgaden so seems odd that the russians have one of his uniforms.

ok Rob!

I am still in Ukraine now for my research upon the former FHQu "Wehrwolf". I have my flight back to Brussels tomorrow and will open a separate thread about the hidden gifts and uniforms in the archives of the Russian Musea in Moscow. And yes - they do own a dining jacket belonging to SS-Ogruf. Julius Schaub as well... I guess it stayed in a wardrobe at the Reichskanzlei or maybe in one of the rooms of the Führerbunker stormed by the Red Army....

Why would the the Russians hide gifts if they found them? How is it significant for them to keep secret?

Probably no logical significance ....overt secrecy was (and still is, IMHO) a way of life for the Russians.

Under Soviet rule, starting with stalin, it was important to propogate the myth that Hitler left the Bunker alive, and could well be being hidden by the so called Allies.
Despite Operation Myth informing stalin, conclusively that he did, indeed die in his Bunker.
