I'm looking forward to actually moving to Munich (well, just outside) in August and being able to take proper photos. Most of the ones to use for http://www.tracesofevil.blogspot.com are rushed and I wouldn't know the full significance until I got back.
One thing I found striking was how Nazi items were openly sold in shop windows, with only the swastikas covered with stickers.

The Hotel Torbrau is apparently the oldest hotel in the centre of Munich, and is where the SA and SS recruited and drank throughout the 1920s. The SA swore allegiance to Hitler and the SS was established in the basement here in 1925.

Across the street is the Sterneckerbrau where Hitler first came across the German Workers' Party on September 12, 1919. It is also significant as being the site where the Nazi Party was originally organised on 24 February 1920.

This on Thierschstrasse 41 was Hitler's Residence. In July 1936 a plaque was attached outside by the city council reading "Adolf Hitler lived in this house from 1 May 1920 to 5 October 1929." Nearby on Thierschstrasse 15 was the Nazis' third headquarters.
Ernst Hanfstaengl revisited the flat after the war and wrote:
"When by chance I found myself walking along Thierschstrasse, I couldn't resist the temptation to pay a visit to Hitler's former house at number 41. Nothing had changed; the façade was the same... and the bombs falling on Munich had failed to shake the porcelain Madonna from her alcove."

The Hofgartenarkaden across from the Bavarian Parliament. It was the site of the 'Exhibition of Degenerate Art' which had officially opened July 19, 1937.

Hi ,
Very nice pictures of Munich after the war.
I was already several times in Munich ( I'm in my free time a tourist guide ) and I had the opportunity to get in the office of Adolf Hitler ( Führerbau )...
It was a very small office but it was a great moment for me if you know the history of 199 - 1945.
Best regards ,
Wim Boffin

The Hotel in Munich where the Thule Society once met is still in business. I was surprised by that. It's called "The Four Seasons Hotel". Maybe someone has a photo?

The Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten then and now (as of 2007 when I took the photo). According to my tour guide, this was where Prime Minister Chamberlain stayed during the Munich Conference in 1938, but I have since read in "Munich - The 1938 Appeasement Crisis" by David Faber that at the end of the third conference it had been Daladier and his entourage who had in fact stayed here whilst Chamberlain and the Czech representatives went to the Regina Palast Hotel.

The Palace of Justice (Justizpalast), which was the site of the Nazi's "People's Court." Members of the White Rose were tried here on February 22, 1943. The top photo dates from the NSDAP era.
