Awesome post, Geoff! :D

It's amazing to see so many of Hitler's former residences still standing; one has to wonder if the current owners and/or tenants know of the 'historical provenance' (some would say 'notoriety') of their respective homes.

Hi Rob,

I read somewhere - I can't recall the source now - of a visit to the house at Hafeld, in which the family was fully aware of the house's history, and the daughter who lived in Adolf's former bedroom said she didn't mind.

Has anyone else read this? Do you know the source?

There's only so many children who can boast that they shared a bedroom with the Fuhrer!

Not so unusual. Many Viennese homeless shared a dorm with Hitler, too.

I read somewhere, that the Hitler family lived in Fischlham (April 1895- January 1897) before they moved from the farm "Rauschgut" at "Weiler Hamfeld" (which also was part of Fischlham) to Marktplatz 58 in Lambach. Can somebody confirm?

BBC (and other sources) are reporting that the Austrian government will now tear the house down.

Yes, its been in the news everywhere.

Find it difficult to believe that people cannot understand
that people are interested in history and its certainly not
for adoration sake.

It was here on the news to (NL) that they want to tear the house down, what a shame indeed.
I could imagine such a desision straight after the war, but now, what's the use.

Human stupidity does not have limits.
That kind of action, just increase the insane visitors, and keep away normal tourists noN NEO-nazi related.
That is historic building like it or not.
More people visited HORST WESSEL grave after removal , than after.
Is something stupid like Google earth, blurring facades of historic buildings in MUNICH , or BERLIN
People can destroy buildings, but not geographical coordinates.
