Wow - hard to believe it has been a year.

The thought today, brought back so many fond memories . . . handwritten paper receipts, the front door, the underground tunnels, the lounge, the entry room [with that magnificent painting], the skeleton keys, and those crazy steel doors to your room [gotcha' guy's - remember that farce - how could I not recall they were wood? ]

What a great place . . . and what a great lady. God rest her Soul.

The news is out and the Türken is opening in the first week of April.
I am excited about the prospective to stay there once again.

It is an important year for the hotel; let's make something important ourselves.
If you are planning a vacation, think of Germany.
And if you think of Germany, remember this small hotel and you will be placed in the 1950s.

I am planning a visit for the first time to the hotel and I will be travelling via public transport. How can I get from Berchtesgaden to the hotel?

Most people hire a car for their time in the area, there are buses but not sure if they run up there at least I have
never seen one except tour buses?

There is bus service that runs regularly from the bus stops in front of the Berchtesgaden train station, to the Obersalzberg. You can just ask at the window in the train station (although this is usually for trains).

There is now no bus stop that is really close to the Türken, but you can take the bus from the train station that goes to the Obersalzberg/Kehlsteinhaus. This will let you out at a bus stop adjacent to the Berggasthof restaurant, near the Dokumentation Center museum and the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) ticket office. It's actually a pretty good hike from there to the Türken, which is out of sight from there.

There might be a bus stop for the InterContinental Hotel. If so, that would be closer ... you would get off there and just walk downhill to the right until you reach the Türken (closer, but again, not real close).

Really, probably the best bet is to take a taxi from the train station straight to the hotel. I think it's less than 10 euro (but I haven't done that since 2005).

I think a taxi sounds like a good idea. I can then use the hotel as a base for walking around the Obersalzberg.

One more question to Geoff, I saw the picture and comments of room 23. Does this have the best view? Is this a double or single room?

Hi Ross,

Nr. 23 is a double room on the top floor (so more stairs to climb). It does have a good view, as do all the rooms on the front side. The double rooms on the main floor (above the ground floor), with views on the front side, are: 5, 6, 10, and 11. Nr. 24, adjacent to 23, is also a double room with a good view. Both 23 and 24 allow views of the original 1911 wood carvings in the original roof beams. All of the rooms listed here have ensuite facilities; 5, 6, 23, and 24 also have balconies (which give the best views).

If you enjoy walking, you can pretty much explore all of the main Obersalzberg sites on foot from the Türken. Lots of folks do this. Not having a vehicle is not much of a hindrance there, using the Türken as a base.

Hi,

Bus 838 runs from the railway station and stops at the Interconti hotel, 200 mt from the Turken, Saturday/Sunday as well.
