Thanks Geoff...very helpful. I see the patch of land of which you speak with the hotel next to it so I do understand where the Berghof was located. My next question so I have clarity is which way the Berhof faced in the photo above? (towards us or away from us - the Kehlsteinhaus). Hitler's famed picture window shows the Berg mountain within it in photos so I'm thinking it was faced away from us toward the sloping mountain in the background. I'm not sure though.

Yes, having the link to Kehlstein sort of allows you to almost be there.

They have had snow up there for a couple days. I get updates regularly.

The Third Reich period road network around the Kehlstein area will be destroyed starting in May, due to a possible threat to the Berchtesgaden water system from the deteriorating 75+ year old asphalt.

This effort was actually started a few years ago, but stopped by preservationists. It appears that it will go through this time, and the several miles of roads built throughout the Kehlstein area by order of Martin Bormann will be torn up and (presumably) converted to unpaved paths.

This will not affect the Kehlstein Road itself (the bus road), reportedly because this road is not thought to pose a problem to the water supply (but of course, the real reason is that the area has no desire to do away with this huge annual cash cow).

Wow i just can not believe that. What is the deal with the blueprints that are said to be original for sale. Do they show the road? Do they show the elevator.
