Hello all!
I am wondering about a comprehensive list of GERMAN military and political magazines with added notes about if it was published in GERMANY ONLY or across Europe and occupied territories or internationally.
I am aware of the following:
- Der Adler (biweekly) : Official Luftwaffe magazine. Published all across Europe in different languages.
- Signal: Official Wehrmacht Heer (German land forces) magazine. 1940-1945. Sold across all of Europe and USA but NOT in Germany!
Published in 25 editions and 30 languages, and at its height had a circulation of 2,500,000 copies. It had an English edition for the USA until 1941, you guess why it stopped then The magazine was glossy and high quality. It even had color pictures which was quite novel in its day. It was relatively free of Nazi propaganda as it was independent from the Propaganda ministry of Goebbels (although obviously it embellished the German ground forces).
- Die Wehrmacht: Wehrmacht (all arms) magazine. Official Wehrmacht magazine with editor being OKW. But for the German market only. Published 1938-1944 to promote the new German Army (from previous Reichswehr). Cancelled 1944.
- Die kriegsmarine: Official magazine of the Navy. Published 1935-1944. One German edition and one "Ausland"(foreign) edition. The foreign editions had extra articles on foreign languages, foreign ship design, and more.
"German Uboots near New York"
I found the images online a while ago on google, but cannot remember the source.
Were there any more German military or propaganda magazines distributed abroad?
