Saving in the Third Reich
Saving in the Third Reich
I have several wartime propaganda items relating to the encouragement of saving money in financial institutions for Victory. They were produced about 1940 or 1941. What would be the rational behind this propaganda theme? Would the Reich then have greater access to the deposited funds or would the act of saving money in banks lower demand for peacetime items on the market that were slowly diminishing? For instance this label says, "Save in the Bank, Save for Victory!" Typically in war there is a push to buy war bonds and those funds are used to buy weapons, but how does the act of simply saving benefit Germany's victory?
