Statues/busts of Hitler?
Statues/busts of Hitler?
Were there any statues/busts of Hitler in public during the Third Reich to alongside the 'Hitler Myth'?
Re: Statues/busts of Hitler?
That's actually very good question.
It seems that apart from busts quite frequently present in offices/halls of state/government/party buildings, storefronts (mostly appearing there around AH birthday) and museums, there were not many (if any ?) statues in public places like parks, streets or squares.
I can't really remember seeing any photo of AH statue out in the streets in Germany...
Quite opposite to Stalin statues being present everywhere from small villages to large towns (bigger place had bigger statues).
Not sure if this was a cultural difference or something else...

Re: Statues/busts of Hitler?
Cool, thanks. I had a look through google images, did a couple of google searches and found pretty much the same as you've said. I wonder if the Hitler Cult of Personality has been blown out of proportion. It wasn't Hitler's face or image which engulfed Germany. It was the swastika. I really feel like the ideology played a far bigger role in Germany at that period than Hitler. From what I can tell, he was just the vessel.
Re: Statues/busts of Hitler?
No, he wasn´t just the vessel and ideology didn´t have more importance than him. Hitler was the ideology. He was national socialism. National socialism and nazi system was nothing without Hitler.
Therefore he was in the middle. But he wanted that he was regarded both as great leader and "servant" of Germany. And he wanted that his "personality cult" wasn´t to much "kitsch", to ungraceful and not to be comparable with other "leaders", kings or important persons of history. He wanted to be regarded as extraordinary. A kind of a "mystic aura".
Hitler statues in public parks, Hitler beer steins etc. - that was to much "kitsch", to much ordinary or to much vulgar for him.

Re: Statues/busts of Hitler?
National Socialism wasn't a new invention. It consisted entirely of pre-existing German beliefs, most of which had great support individually. Hitler just tied these strands together into an ideology. Just google 'Unter den Linden Third Reich' or 'Nuremberg Party Rally' or even 'Hitler speech' and look at the sea of swastikas. It dominated Nazi Germany. It's even known as NAZI Germany lol. To say the ideology didn't have a massive role within the society is just wrong IMO.
