Berghof Obersalzberg
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
I dont know how it was at the Türken before, but it must really have been something! Me and my friends stayed there for the first time in August this year and we had a great stay. The owner and the others working there was very friendly and welcoming to us, and we all agreed that we would come back just for staying there. I spend a lot of time in hotels, but I have never had an experience like this. And when we left there the owner was standing in the door and shook our hands and welcomed us back, I can not tell aything bad about our stay at the Türken at all.

Hello
I'm normally not on this section but rather a Fortification&Artillery-section-addept... so I don't know if these are already posted in this topic and I don't feel like scrolling the 267 pages in this topic, never the less I'd like to share these photos with you.
I got these from a friend. It's a original post-war photocollectionbox probably bought in a tourist shop in or near the Kehlsteinhaus.
Enjoy!

Great pics, Jean - thanks for posting! Some of those views are very rarely seen, and no, they haven't been in this thread before.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
I love those bronze lion door handles to the Kehlsteinhaus tunnel doors. I've seen reproductions on sale off-and-on over the years...or maybe they were the originals?
I've heard that the two original bronze door handles...one is missing to history and the other was given to Eisenhower and used as a door stop in his home.
Maybe true, maybe not?
Anyone out there in Forum land know another story about what happened to these handles?

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
The Eisenhower family does indeed have one of the handles. I haven't seen it myself, but I know someone who has. The other one is in private hands in the USA, last I heard of it. It's been for sale off and on over the years (always for 5 figures, when I saw it). It has been authenticated by authorities in Berchtesgaden as the real thing.

That handle would be a real piece of history to have Geoff.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
From photographs, I am familiar with the main driveway up to the Berghof garage and staircase, but I would not have a clue on how to maneuver up to the Eagles Nest from the Berghof driveway. How far of a drive, how long would it take?
If you were standing under the Bormann tree, for example, and decided to head towards the Eagles Nest, which way would you go? Towards the hotel next door, or down towards the guards gate? and then from there, then where?
In fact, could someone post an aerial view that is wide enough to chart the path from the Berghof driveway to the Eagles Nest?

Hi!
If you're looking for a panorama view of the Kehlsteinhaus, i posted one of my pics earlier in this thread. I've shot it on August 02, 2013. We had beautiful weather and I went up to one of the first buses, so that only a few tourists were there.
Because it's christmas time i've done some editing to it and made a high resolution JPG of it, which you can download under the following link:
http://www.vergessener-beton.de/images/ ... ighRes.jpg
I hope you enjoy it!
Here's a preview of the highres Pic (the banner of my page is only here so big):
Please respect my copyright for the image and spread it not wild on the internet. A poster above your bed would be nice!
Bye
Christian

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thanks, Christian! What an absolutely gorgeous view! I saw a view from the webcam recently, that I wish I could have had as a panoramic pic. The valley fog came all the way up so that only the sunlit tops of Watzmann, Hochkalter, and the Untersberg were visible ... it was as if the Haus was floating on a sea of clouds.
Servus,
Geoff

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Turn right out of the Berghof drive, past the Tuerken and Kindergarten, past the SS Kaserne and the greenhouse, to the open paved area at the top of the hill ("Hintereck") where several drives came together (a left turn here led to Goering's house or his Adjutantur). Continuing straight ahead here, just past the Eckerbrunn gatehouse, was the gated entry to the Kehlstein road. The drive from the Berghof to the upper parking lot before the tunnel would have taken some 10-15 minutes (about 6.8 km).WW2 Historian wrote:From photographs, I am familiar with the main driveway up to the Berghof garage and staircase, but I would not have a clue on how to maneuver up to the Eagles Nest from the Berghof driveway. Here is a map of the route from the Berghof to the Kehlsteinhaus parking area, from Google Maps.
