FYI:

Interesting sale of some early Hitler items. This has nothing to do with the Berghof, but still interesting to share with my "Forum Friends".

Reference only—from an old sale of some Berghof items

WALL SCONCE DESIGN DRAWINGS FROM THE BERGHOF

Set of six original designer’s drawings of wall sconce
light fixtures once apparently presented as a selection from
which Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun, or a designer could choose for
retrofitting into Hitler’s vacation home at Obersalzberg. The
professionally-rendered drawings are executed in gold, yellow,
white and black pastel on approx. 15” x 28” sheets of heavy
brown paper and serially numbered one through six. All of the
designs vary, from classical to “folkish”. The first example
bears original lettering by the designer: “HAUS BERGHOF
FUHRERHAUS OBERSALZBERG NO. 1-6”. Light folds and soiling,
else very good. In 1933 Hitler purchased the Berghof with
funds he received from the sale of his political manifesto Mein
Kampf. In 1935 the house was expanded and extensively renovated
at which time these drawings were likely undertaken.
Although wall sconces don’t appear to have been widely used
in the structure, they do appear in the main dining room and
may have been installed in servants and guards quarters as
well. $1,500-2,000

Nice image of the Berghof Dining bay window area. I believe that this wood is "Birds-Eye Maple" Paneling(?).

Hello JR,

nice Picture, but i guess the Paneling is made out of Swiss stone pine (german Zirbe or Zirbelkiefer), still a common Wood used mainly in Austria for diningrooms. The Panelling must have been mede with great Expertise, just look at the ceiling, great isn't it?
At the Kehlsteinhaus (eagles nest) there used to be a Swiss Stone pine room as well.

Actually according to Florian Beierl book History of the Eagles Nest

The Scharitzhel room was paneled with rare cembra pine wood.

page 110 --- I would imagine that they used the same pine wood in the
Berghof dining bay?

May as well add to the information about the door handles that they
were designed by famous animal sculptor professor Bernhard Bleeker.

Goeff, noticed that this book gives expenses of the interior of Kehlstein
and that Bronze door knobs (maybe lever also?) made by Böhm & Wiedemann Company.

Thanks, J.R., I was hoping this link would show the artwork, but it is kept well under wraps. I have a friend who used to work at the Center for Military History (who "owns" this art), and they refused to let him look at this art, because "his job didn't require it." They have only let this art be filmed a handful of times, and then only some of it, at a distance. Presumably they have a photo catalog of it, but I don't know WHO you would have to be, to get a look at that.

These are just some of the works that are (or were) held by the US Army. Some of these may have been returned a few years ago to Germany, and stored at the Bavarian Army Museum, but those works have not been put on display either, except for a handful, once or twice. For sure, the works showing Hitler or other Nazi leaders were retained by Washington, where they remain.

Hi to both,

Zirbelkiefer = Zirbelholz = cembra pine = Swiss stone pine .... It's all the same wood.
You're both right - this wood was used both in the Berghof dining room and the Kehlsteinhaus Scharitzkehlzimmer.

The finished steps to the lower level in our Home are pine, and have an identical appearance once the finish was applied . . . pine is pine. :D

Greetings! I have been lurking around this board for quite some time now and finally decided to join. And I want to commend everyone that has contributed to this excellent thread about the Berghof & Obersalzberg, which is among my interests. It is a particularly valuable and thorough source of information! And a preservation of history.

I have some things to contribute myself, too. And while I have read this entire thread over time, I am hopefully not duplicating things that have already been submitted here.

A thread on this French language forum contains numerous photos of the Berghof, perhaps some not seen here on AHF before. And if one scrolls down far enough in the thread, an Ausweis (identity card) is shown named to Emmy Göring for what appears to be admittance to the security zone at Obersalzberg (?) by the RSD. I have never seen anything like that before. Link:

And here we have another French language site dedicated to the Obersalzberg that also may contain additional images not yet posted on AHF, including a few of the Mooslahnerkopf Tea House and the "Eagle's Nest" that I don't think I have seen here before:

http://obersalzberg.canalblog.com/

Enjoy! :D
