Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Schmundt's grave(stone) is in the Invaliden Friedhof in Berlin.

Thanks!
Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to give guided tours like I did for the past few years. Sorry!

Hi Guys!
What i'm still searching for: Are there pictures about the upper corridor which is leading to the Arbeitszimmer and the Bedrooms of AH and EB?
Also the passage to the Haus Wachenfeld?
Actually found a lot of pictures of the lower Corridor and the main staircase but nothing of this one!
ThanX a lot
Steph

Maybe you have already seen these ... these are the photos I have of the upper corridor. I have never seen any photos taken if one turned the corner, and entered the corridor that led to the Arbeitszimmer and the AH and EB bedrooms ... does anyone else have pics of this corridor?
This one was taken at the top of the main staircase, looking back towards the staircase that led on up to the upper story and the door that led to the guest rooms above the ground floor dining room. The small door on the left led to a room that looks like "Dunkelzimmer" on the plans (it's not entirely clear to me). Was there a dark room in the Berghof? Or what was the purpose of this small room that was beneath the staircase? This was looking the other way, toward a door that led into two small rooms that shared a bathroom (probably staff rooms, not guest rooms). If one turned to the right, before this door, up a short flight of steps was the corridor with the doors to the AH and EB bedrooms and the AH Arbeitszimmer.

Hi Geoff!
Thanks for those pics, but your right: I've already seen this
Still looking for pics of the upper corridor, maybe we will find someting here.
I think the purpose of Dunkelraum is quiet simple as the Besenkammer on the upper corridor, perhaps for cleaning equipment or storing bedding stuff and towels. Maybe it was a result of covering the staircase which is leading to the second floor, just that the corridor looks massive. Like the whole architectural style of the Berghof.

well, just checked the plans again: Maybe there was really a Dunkelkammer because of EB hobby of photographing!

On request a link to a thread i started in the Model Building subforum: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 8&t=218203
It showcases a large scale model of the Berghof complex.

The last couple of days in Berchtesgaden the weather was just perfect for exploring the area with my son! Not too many tourists anymore, since the Kehlsteinhaus closed for the winter one and a half weeks ago.

Hi Everyone,
All the best for 2016. May it be a good one. I want to plan a trip to the Obersalzberg this year after following this thread for several years now. What would you guys suggest is the best time of the year with regards to not too many tourists, weather etc. Not scared of the cold but would just like to make sure that we can see as much as possible. Much appreciated and please keep this one alive. Very interesting

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Hi hsa601,
The issue is generally the weather. To avoid the bulk of the tourist crowds, one should avoid visiting from May-October (or even November, some years). BUT, in normal years, there is snow there from about the middle of October to about the beginning of May (and sometimes earlier/later). Years like 2015, with little or no snow on the Obersalzberg up to the end of the year, are quite rare. In addition, visiting in the winter means very short hours of daylight. On the other hand, a summer visit gives over 12 hours of daylight for exploring. BUT, the leaves are on the trees then, and can obscure the ruins in the woods. Really, there is no perfect time to visit there.
Anyway, as a best all-around compromise. I recommend late May / early June, or late September. Yes, there will be considerable tourists then, but not as bad as June-August. Myself, I lean toward mid-late May. I've had my best visits there in May.
Hope you have a great trip, whenever it is!
