Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Did you happen to see what the little white signs on the Türken shutters said? I haven't seen anything like that there before.
Glad to hear you had a good visit!

Hi Geoff,
Yes, they are flyers promoting a local event, nothing related to the Türken.
The large sign said "closed for winter, private property / closed off til summer".

Welcome to AHF, and thanks for posting!
This is an excellent view of that light fixture that is for sale ... taken by an American soldier in 1945. Steph posted the link to the sale on page 287 of this thread.
Who is that being greeted by Hitler?

Thanks! Perhaps the photo shows Tiso's visit to the Berghof on 28 July 1940.

Maybe allready known by the Forum: The manufacturer (especially of the indoor-) lamps of the Berghof and many other buildings still exist. They still produce some similar chandelier/lamps which have hang in the Berghof.
Its the I.WINHART & CO. GMBH in München

Wow. Interesting. Especially that they have been around pre 1900.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Up until very recently, this company or another sold a light that was very much like the ceiling light style in the Berghof (like in Hitler's office). But I didn't see anything like this in their catalog - did I miss it? I see they do sell a hanging lamp very similar to those in the Mooslahnerkopf Teehaus (Nr 3520).

Hi everyone,
i've just found pics of the Berghof telephone book in Harry von Gebhardt Collection. I did not recognize before. Perhaps you have not seen it yet like me:

Planned expansion to Dokumentation Obersalzberg goes 50% over budget
It would be a shame if the cost overrun precluded opening the SS-Stollen to the public. But, if they wanted to, they could do this in a much cheaper way - open up the shaft at the end of the Gästehaus Stollen and install a staircase down to the level of the SS-Stollen.

Anger at cost explosion on the Obersalzberg
Munich / Berchtesgaden - A massive increase in costs in the expansion plans for the Nazi documentation center on the Obersalzberg ensures trouble. The extension will be more expensive by almost 50 percent as approved by the Cabinet - 21 million instead of the planned EUR 14.3 million.
...
There are several reasons. A subterranean stumbling block: The blueprints provide a 35 meter long tunnel digging by mining and open up to allow a tour of the old SS-Bunker. The tunnel alone will cost several million euros. "We question whether it is educationally necessary," said Committee Chairman Winterkorn.
The authorities are concerned also for another reason: The Obersalzberg is a former holiday home of the Nazi elite - a "Täterort". The memorials to the millions of victims of the Nazi regime in the former concentration camps are financially worse off. Thus, the parking lot at the former Dachau concentration camp is not even lit up - or not drained sufficiently so that visitors are on rainy days in the puddle.
The SPD politician for culture Isabell Zacharias keeps expanding in the planned shape despite the high cost. "I think the inclusion of the bunker is useful," she said. "If you say A to a reasonable extension, one must also say B to the cost."

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Footage of Berghof from the year 1948. Screen capture from the documentary: Witnesses of The Doom. Spiegel TV. Germany, 2014. This material was filmed for Michael Musmanno's documentary about Hitler. The footage was "lost for 60 years", recovered and here it is.
What house was this filmed from? First I thought it was Bormann's house but Bormann's house was more uphill. This looks like slightly below Berghof level.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
This was probably filmed from the ruins of the Unterwurflehen house, the so-called Spahn Haus. Looks like a view taken a little to the left of this postcard view.
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thanks Geoff! It is amazing how much the area has changed since the 40's.
Oh, and the distance today between the hillside and the left corner of the Berghof is about 1 meter today. You can see from the garage photo below it was several meters in the 40's. Was ground removed after the war from between the house itself and the hillside or how come the distance today is so different?
Anyway, here are a few more screencaptures from the docu. In case these are irrelevant the mods can delete these but I thought these were nice and atleast something not often seen as Musmannon's footage apparently was only discovered "60 years later".
