Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Big ditto! Those stones may be already gone .... But keep in mind, that all the original stones on up the driveway, that are covered by the fill dirt (on both sides of the drive), are presumably all still there, preserved for now.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
You know, this thread is probably one of the best preserver of research in this area of the Obersalzberg in existence.

It's bizarre: I had exactly the same feeling about those stones so I took far too many photos of them, hoping to match them with period photos when I got home. Of course, I have so far not got around to it.

Based on Mannheim's images this is exactly what they look like today (assuming that these are 2016 or 2017 images).Mannheim wrote:It's bizarre: I had exactly the same feeling about those stones so I took far too many photos of them, hoping to match them with period photos when I got home. Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
I think this one matches up pretty well if you look at the rocks in the right bottom corner.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Haha, nice to see my car in your pics!
I had the same idea when i was there in 2013, but not because of the stones.
Here is a quick comparison pic in front of the destroyed Berghof which I did at that time. The position of the Bormann linden tree can also be seen.
Regards
Christian

I found another match in Harry von Gebhardt's Pics. Hitler stands on the right wall of the driveway and the camera looks up to the Türken. Both photos are old, but with them you can see the position of Hitler.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Is there a similar stone retaining wall by the driveway/path leading to what was the kitchen wing?
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
How about the lower wall down the road? i cant tell for sure but it looks like there are more stones left in it?
wow, you can really see how much the driveway has been filled up to

Great match with a period photo, Christian! Thanks!tunix0 wrote:I found another match in Harry von Gebhardt's Pics. Hitler stands on the right wall of the driveway and the camera looks up to the Türken. Both photos are old, but with them you can see the position of Hitler.
No, only one layer of small border stones (like large cobble stones) running along each side. Like what you can see running up the drive on the Bormann Tree side in the 1945 photo. Some of these you can still see, some have been buried.Biber wrote:Is there a similar stone retaining wall by the driveway/path leading to what was the kitchen wing?
