Has anyone visited the Carinhall site recently?
If so, can anyone recommend a really knowledgeable guide who can speak some English?

I am also looking for information on an 18 century house Goring is said to have owned in Ringenwalde, plus any information on his farm in Gollin would be greatly.
many thanks
Michele

Didn't Goring call it Karinhall? Don't know. Anyway, if you could get it before your trip, the 1991 issue (#71) of "After The Battle" magazine has some great photos of the site, maps to get there, and info.

Many thanks re After The Battle magazine. I already have this and others items that deal with Carinhall.

I really need to find someone who can guide me round the site in April 2004 please. Can someone out there help or give me information on where to find a knowledgeable person who knows the area?
Here's hoping!!

I have seen it spelled both ways and both times ina German text situation. Strange, as I would also have expected it to be spelled with a K all the time, but I guess not.

Here is a link to some images and text describing an excavation at the site. I had never heard of this place before.. Göering sure did get around.

Carin is probably more correct because that was the name of Goring's first wife;she was Swedish.

I think you need a special permit to visit the site.Treasure hunters started digging things up there after the publication of a book,in Germany in 1999,on the estate.Pro-Nazi groups also started sight-seeing there at the same time. The authorities then zoned the area as private land, permission required to enter.

Yes, but I think that he still spelled it with a "K".

The name Karin is spelled with a "K" in Swedish.

Kind of a moderate grave for Göring's taste, wouldn't you say?

It is correct that Carin spelled her name with a C. The reason that the name of the estate is spelled with a K, which it is, is, regarding to what I have heard, that the land where the estate was situated was given to Göring by the Preussian goverment (or leadership). Not only the land was given to Göring but also the front door of the first house built on the land and on this door there was an inscription that said that the estate was given to Göring for his work for and in Preussia, this inscription also stated the name of the estate but it was spellt with a K. It was naturally supposed to have been spelled with a C. So a misspelling can be the source for the confusion.

Correct the area was a Royal Estate of Kaiser Wilhelm II.In the early 1920s much of Royal Land was confiscated by the Weimar Government. Goring, like the Kaiser, saw it as a good hunting ground close to Berlin.

I think also that Goering's first wife died and was buried in Sweden. There was some sort of misunderstanding with the Swedish goverment about the nazi flag ect. The body was thus dug up and reburied in germany in 1934. During the closing days of the war, Russian soliders broke into the the crypt and scattered the bones. Later a clergyman from Sweden took the bones back and had them buried in the family plot. Any more info on this?
Thanks,

Randy
