Nazi Combat Artists - Help identify art program

#1

Post by bilboleslie » 08 May 2005, 08:41

I have an original art portfolio titled "Kampf Und Kunst". The porfolio itself has following on outside of cover: PK621.

The package consists of about 48 to fifty numbered artist sketches - mostly pencil, but a few watercolors - dated to 1941. Most are by a Heinz Raebiger. These seem to be part of a limited edition set of prints made from the originals. I can't find any info about it.

The intro to the portfolio reads:

What does this mean?

Anyone know anything about this portfolio, artist program, or anything else? The thing was captured by an American soldier, and packed around for a while.

If I can, I will try to post images of the cover, intro page, and some of the sketches.

Here are a couple more. By the way, the sketches of men are all labeled, I think, as being Russian POWs. The woman laying by a fence is titled "Russian grandmother killed by grenade during battle with partisans" or something like that. My German is not so good.

More pictures follow. Wasn't sure people would be interested. I did find that Raebiger did appear in at least one art book in the 1930's - I think in France. Can't find any other reference to him.
