Sudetenland SA Units
Sudetenland SA Units
I have a family photograph of someone who appears to be wearing an SA Brownshirt. Not sure when it was taken but the individual concerned came from Southern Bohemia, in what is now the Czech Republic, near Kaplitz.
Did the SA, or some form of it, exist in these areas before the German annexation or would this picture be dated as after the invasion?

Re: Sudetenland SA Units
It is unlikely any SA units were organised on Czechoslovakian territory before September 1938 as these were banned and certainly couldn't use uniforms in public. Only organisation allowed by law was SdP (Sudetendeutsche Partei).
So most likely photo was taken post that date, if taken in Czechoslovakia at all.
Is there any mark from photography atelier or number on collar of the uniform? That might help with further identification.

If so it would be stored in the Federal Archives in berlin or in the NARA. You might try the Party Correspondence (often there is an additional SA-Membership mentionend), the SA-Stammrollen, the records of the Party Court (OPG) or other items. You can find these files if you are allowed to use the new research Data Base INVENIO in the Federal Archives. The files of the Austrian and Sudeten Party members were integrated in those of the Reich.
This is my experience with the files of my own grandfather (Henlein Movement) and as a historian.

Hello, do you know the DVD from the archive Leitmeritz from 2008, it is a list of NSDAP members Sudetenland/Bohemia and Moravia with the details of the person, born, place, lives and career in the German Reich plus the source for proof. There are 25 pdf files from A to Z with a size of 35 MB.
With interest gladly exchange.
