What was the purpose of this SA-Gruppe? I haven't been able to find out much info on this short-lived SA unit.

following the disband of NSDAP in austria, a number of SA members flew in Germany to form "Austrian Legion" (Ost. Legion)
this organisation took name of Hilfswerk Nordwest until anschluss.

Hi!
The name HW "Nordwest" has Sudeten-Legion (See D. Littlejohn "Foreign Legions" Vol. 3p.13).
Austria for german was "Ostmark", not "Nordwest".

Hello Semenov,

sorry but I'm right.
Just received the excellent book on MdR 1933 - 1945 by Andreas Schulz (our Moderator)

Reschny Hermann
Leader of the austrian SA since 1926.
1.7.33 - 30.6.34 F SA Obergruppe VIII (Osterreich) which became on march 1934 SA Obergruppe XI
1934 - 13.3.38 F SA Hilfswerk Nordwest
14.3.38 - 31.5.38 F SA Gruppe Osterreich

this reliable source confirm my topic : Nordwest = austrian SA

Hi,
I didn't read mentioned book, as by the way to buy it? You think what Littlejoihn mistake?
In his another book SA 1921-1945 (Osprey pub.) he write NW - austrian nazi exiles.
But why NW for Austria(Ostmark)?

Best regards!

Semenov,

the second mention confirm our information.
This spelling served to hide the origin of the members of this SA group.
for researchs upon SA, "Statisten in Uniform" by Andreas and Joachim Lila will provide you a wide range of infos.
Very helpfull.
