Gau-Organisationsleiter (Gau Berlin)
Re: Gau-Organisationsleiter (Gau Berlin)
Hi Alex:
Per Eric C. Steinhart in the The Holocaust and the Germanization of the Ukraine (pp 124-5), Rudolf Hartung was born in 1905 in Bucharest. He lived in Galicia until 1926 when he moved to Berlin in order to avoid being drafted into the Polish military. In 1934, he joined the Berlin Gauleitung. In 1939, Hartung's superiors seconded him to Horst Hoffmeyer of the VoMi. In 1941, Hartung was deployed to Transnistria as a member of Sonderkommando R where he was the Bereichskommandoführer of Bereichskommando XI headquartered in Rastatt. Hartung is associated with the shootings of Jews at the Bogdanovka camp from December '41 to January '42.
Hope this helps.
Joachim
