He was SA-Obergruppenführer, head of NSKOV and MdR. He wrote also a lot of propaganda crap against the Jews:

his title in the party was "Reichshauptamtsleiter der NSDAP" as Leiter Hauptamt für Kriegsopfer der NSDAP
his highest rank was Hauptdienstleiter der NSDAP
he was too leader of the NS association "NS-Kriegsopferversorgung (NSKVO) with the title of Reichskriegersopferführer

his antisemit profile is related in AnDie/Lilla book on MdR as member of the "Zentralkomitee zur Abwehr der jüdischen Greuel-und Boykotthetze" on april 33.

Hi
Thanks for nice pre-war info; also interesting in his post-war activities. I know he was witness for the defence in the Nürnberg trial (the case against SA). Was he convicted? Did he died in 1949 or later?

Postwar: He was interned by the Americans at Dachau until 1948, when for some reason he was handed over to the Poles. ("Prominente ohne Maske" says he was extradited because of "name confusion" - maybe the US sent someone other than whomever the Poles wanted; but if so, why didn't the Poles send him back?) He died in Polish custody in Warsaw on April 6, 1949.

I think it very well could have been a case of "name confusion". There is nothing that even remotely seems to connect Oberlindober to Poland/the Generalgouvernement in the lengthy biographical sketch of the man that I've received from Andreas Schulz. So perhaps the Poles thought he was Theodor Oberländer (involved in West German politics beginning in the late-1940's), who- while leading the "Nachtigall-Bataillon"- was allegedly involved in the murder of Polish citizens in Lwow/Lviv/Lemberg. The following is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lviv_C ... re_of_1941 :
Another court investigation was launched in West Germany. No new documents were forthcoming except falsified written "eye-witness" statements by former members of the Nachtigall Battalion from the Soviet Union. These accounts were translated and forwarded April 6, 1960 to Ludwigsburg. The accusations stated that the Nachtigall Battalion killed Jews and Poles in Lviv, Zolochev, Satanov, Yuzvyn, Mykhalpol, and on the night of 3-4 July they shot hundreds of Polish intellectuals[11].
A biographical sketch of Oberländer- who, in 1960, was sentenced by a DDR court to life imprisonment for his role in the "Lviv Massacre"- appears at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodor_Oberl%C3%A4nder .

My info. from Andreas Schulz also indicates that Oberlindober's death may have resulted from mistreatment at the hands of his Polish captors "(angeblich an den Folgen von Misshandlungen durch seine polnischen Bewacher)".

Exquisite portrait of Oberlindober, Max.

Best,
~ Mike

Here is a picture from Jihlava (Iglau), Czech Rep. The person on the left looks very much like Oberlindober, but I am confused by the uniform and headgear. Could anybody confirm, please?

Thanks,
Pavel

Pavel:

It is a wartime SA uniform. Several men in the Generalgouvernement in Poland also wore a field grey uniform with SA collar tabs and an gold SA eagle on their left shoulder such as the one shown here. The headgear was a standard pre-war political leaders visor cap. It was pretty much non-regulation but some of the SA general officers seemed to mix and match this type of uniform.

Oberlindober was extradited to Poland for participating in "requisition of wealth" of Association of Polish War Invalids,
so his extradition wasn't a mistake.
I'm sure that he would received 1-3 years in prison or maybe even acquittal.
