Pitino,

Gau München-Oberbayern was Traditionsgau - the Gau, where Bewegung was born. Gau Thüringen was Trutzgau - the Gau, where in 1930 the first government of the NSDAP was formed. Gau Oberdonau was Heimatgau - the Gau, where Führer was born.

Igor

-I found an order from Dr. Ley in 1933 that shows the confusion of the Political Leiter Service Uniform realm, but also sheds some light as to why some Gauleiters were wearing Reichsinspekteur uniforms during that period!!!

-Die Uniform der PO:

-(12. 5. 33)

Der StabsL. d. O.L. d.

The crux of this order is that Dr. Ley has come up with an arrangement that for the time being allows for the old uniforms until the completion of the draft of the new uniforms. Ley then states that Gauleiters should always wear the Uniform of the former Reichsinspekteure. Finally, it states that Ley remains steadfast that only Politischen leiters in the service of an Politischen Organisation are allowed to the the Politischen Leiter Uniform.

So, that is one of the reasons why we see a "melting pot" of uniforms being worn during the early NSDAP years!!!!

Found a new honorary stellvertretnden Gauleiter!!!

Februar 1940 Adolf Hitler

So, it seems like Kothen was granted the right on (August 24, 1938) and was relived of the right on February 6, 1940.

-Found an interesting transmission the other day that begs a couple of questions??? First, here is the transmission:

-(7.5.43)

-An des Propagandaministerium gerichtete Notiz des Verbindungsmann zur Pkzl, Tiessler, betr. die Ernennung des Pg. Weinheimer zum Kommissarischer Stellvertretenden Gauleiter.

Translation:

-The Liaison to the Partei-Kanzlei, Tiessler, directed a notice to the Reich Propaganda Ministry concerning the appointment of Party Member Weinheimer to the Kommissarischer Stellvertretenden Gauleiter.

The Questions:

I have found a Pg. Weinheimer serving as Leiter of the Reichspropagandaamt des Gaues Hessen Nassau. He would be the plausible choice for the above mentioned Pg. Weinheimer.

-Is it possible that Tiessler was just proposing Weinheimer for the position in the transmission?

-Did Stellv. GL. des Gaues Hessen-Nassau, Linder, take a leave of absence during this period or did he serve in the military during the time from the posting?

-Does anyone have any other thoughts about the transmission or does anyone have another possibility for Pg. Weinheimer?

-Has anyone ever seen Weinheimer on a Gauleiter or Deputy Gauleiter list?

Joachim Lilla's Die Stellvertretenden Gauleiter has Hans Zimmermann as "kommissarisch (m.d.W.d.G.b.) des Gauleiters des Gaues Franken der NSDAP": 16.02.1940 - 04.04.1942. This same information also appears in Statisten in Uniform (Lilla, Döring & Schulz) and Rademacher's Handbuch der NSDAP Gau (except that the dates are 21.03.1940 - 07.03.1942 and it has "m.d.L.b." instead of "m.d.W.d.G.b." des Gaues Franken).

Lilla mentions that Zimmermann was "Kriegsdienst bei der Wehrmacht" 15.04.1942 - 27.11.1943. Perhaps he was given the honorary title "ehrenhalber stellv. Gauleiter" while he was doing military service (since he had basically been doing that job for the prior 2 years anyway).

This lists Zimmermann als stellv. Gauleiter eh. von Franken while at the artillerie-Waffenschule Mourmelon (Frankreich) in 1943.
