I would like to know the significance of the badge, bars and patch in the picture. Gottlieb Gröner was said to be a Gauleiter, but is not on any list.

hello,

not a Gauleiter but a Kreisleiter der NSDAP
he was Kreisleiter for the Kreis Neresheim (Württemberg).
He was too executive manager of a newspaper.
Collar badge is an Edelweiß (which refer to some mountain unit 14/18 ?)

No the uniform shown is a WWI army unit uniform and has nothing to do with the NSDAP uniforms.

NO, the patch on the left arm shows an early machine gun. Guess he was deloyed in a machine gun platoon of a mountain unit then.

Here is a rare photo of Josef Bürckel in the uniform with the Gauleiter collar tabs. Usually he did not wear them. It is only the 2nd photo of him which is known to me.

Actually photos of Bürckel wearing Gauleiter tabs are quite numerous from the late 1933 early 1934 period. I have several in my collection. It is after 1935 that he stopped wearing them.
