Franz von Papen: the crest of his family

Postby azbarber on 01 Jul 2011 20:27

I'm assuming everyone here knows who he is, but I'm looking for some specific info. Does anyone know what the family crest or seal looks like?

I have located an interesting piece of history, but I'm not sure if it's the same von Papen.

Any ideas?

Ok, here's some pics. It doesn't appear to be a crest, maybe religious? At any rate, it was found in a hunting lodge (a very nice one) somewhere between Einsbach and Nordheim just before the end of WW2. The person that found it says the lodge was owned by the von Papens.

The inside with wax seal. It's a pretty big seal, about 90mm across. It says "Gott mit Uns" across the top of the tent under the trident, and there are two rows of Latin making two circles around the whole thing. The center appears to be a tablet with hieroglyphics.

The back.

The front.

It appears to be tin, but the coloring looks a lot like silver tarnish.

If anyone has any ideas what this is or who this might have belonged to, I'd be glad to hear any theories no matter how wild. I haven't been able to find anything.
