I recently came across an interesting, quite detailed article in a 1938 VB covering preparations for the 8/9 November 1938 festivities in Munich.
On the 8th, the only people allowed into the Great Hall of the Buergerbraeukeller to hear Hitler speak were:
1. All Blood Order holders, all holders of the green "Dauerausweis" (The green Dauerausweis was presented to those who had definitely participated in the events of 1923, but who did not qualify for the Blood Order, for one reason or another. A sample is pictured in my recent article on this subject in Roger Bender's magazine.)
2. Next of kin of the 16 victims of 1923
3. Hitler's personal guests
4. all Reichsleiters of the NSDAP
5. The Deputy Gauleiter of Gau Muenchen-Oberbayern
Other than these people, no one got to sit in the room where Hitler was. If you weren't in your seat by 8:00 you lost it. All other high rankers in the NSDAP and its formations had to sit in another hall in the cellar, and listen to Hitler's voice over a loudspeaker system.
Regulations of the march on the 9th are even more specific:
March participants:
1. all Blood Order holders and holders of the green Dauerausweis
2. Reichsleiters
3. Gauleiters
4.Obergruppenfuehrer/Gruppenfuehrer of the SA, SS, NSKK, NSFK
5.Obergebietsfuehrer/Gebietsfuehrer of the HJ
6.Arbeitsgaufuehrer of the RAD
In the composition of the march, the Dauerausweis holders were actually given precedence over Blood Order holders of the Police and Wehrmacht. The marchers had to be in their place outside the Buergerbraeukeller by 11:45 sharp.
Uniforms to be worn during the march:
Brown shirt with no collar tabs or shoulder straps, brown tie with Party badge if a member, brown breeches, black boots, brown belt. No cross-strap. 1923 armband to be worn. The Blood Order could be worn on the right pocket.Only Hitler could allow men to wear the 1923 Windjacke/kepi uniform, and if he did allow it, no medals or insignia (including the Blood Order) could be worn on it, only an armband.
The article goes on at great length to specify everything to the nth degree. Doubtless there were exceptions to the rules, but the regulations seem to have been fairly serious, according to the tenor of the piece.

Very interesting Jeff and the first time that I have heard of green Dauerausweis holders and look forward to more information on them in your next article.

You made an interesting posting. What was the date of the 1938 Völkischer Beobachterarticle article covering November 8-9 preparations? I'm curious how much warning was given for those wishing to attend.
