I read that Baldur von Schirach's maternal grandfather Karl von Schirach, served as a lieutenant in the 54. New York Regiment in American Civil War.

Is there any picture of him in Union uniform?

Yes, but I will have to get back to you with it. Got to find the file. He was severely wounded in the right leg at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run, and it had to be amputated.
