I came across a few photos from the NARA taken in April 1933 just at the infancy of the DLV. They show DLV uniforms with SA/SS type collar tab insignias !!!! I have never seen these type of insignias before, nor is there any mention of them in references nor any regulations concerning them. As these photos were taken right at the creation of the DLV they may be prototypes collar tabs that were soon abolished. Maybe Göring thought them too similar to SA/SS tabs and he had more "military" style tabs created in their place?? Has anyone seen other photos of these type tabs or know anything about them ??

PHOTO 001 shows Hans Baur wearing what appears to be Standartenführer type tab on the DLV uniform.
PHOTO 002 shows an unknown Pour Le Merite holder wearing Oberführer style tabs on his DLV uniform.
PHOTO 003 the best one of all shows Erhard Milch wearing an Obergruppenführer style tab on his DLV uniform.
PHOTO 004 shows Friedrich Christiansen wearing an Oberführer style tab.

Re: DLV Uniforms with SA/SS Insignia
Similar question came up on another site some time ago, along with the Christiansen photo and another photo of Baur with same collar tabs.

They could simply be early collar tabs, or perhaps something to do with the Air Ministry which was created in April 1933.

Ian:
Thanks for the link. I believe this proves that others did indeed wear these type tabs for a very short period of time. And the fact that Milch also wear an Obergruppenführer style tab shows that these must have been approved by someone but never made it into the regulations. Probably shelved very quickly afterwards.
