Was Fritz Todt SS member? [NO]

#1

Post by stokas » 23 May 2003, 17:23

Hi everybody!
Robert S.Wistrich in "Who's Who in Nazi Germany"(Routledge,London and New York ,1995) says F.Todt was SS-Oberfuhrer in Stab d.RFSS since 1931 and reached finally rank of SS-Ogruf.I didn't find him in DAL from 10.1934, I've never seen a pic of him in SS uniform and i know this book has many errors so can anybody confirm or deny this for 100%??? oh and I know he was Gen.maj. der Luftwaffe :)
Best wishes,stokas
One thing! Anybody has an official Photo of him? Thanks

Hmm, that's strange...I have the German 1983 edition of Wistrich's book (German title "Wer war wer im Dritten Reich") and that one makes no mention of an SS rank for Dr. Todt. It does mention that he was an SA-Obergruppenführer, though.
As he is not in the SS-Dienstalterslisten of December 1936 and 1938 either, could it be that the later edition of Wistrich's book is faulty?

Thanks for photo!(could it be , you have a larger one ?)

You write he started as SA- Standartenfuhrer. On many www sites he is mentioned as SA-Oberfuhrer from 1931.

The most important thing is that a theoretically serious book should not published such nonsenses(I mean SS-Ogruf)).And sorry for my english!

The same pic from another source, showing a bit more of his uniform. Rank here is SA-Obergruppenführer.

Cheers,

Hans

Hi -

Here's a Hoffmann postcard of Dr. Todt as well as a press photo of him speaking at a meeting in Vienna wearing a Luftwaffe uniform.

Best,
Rob

Rob~

Awesome Photos! Never seen either before now.

Second one a real gem- also pictured are Baldur von Schirach and Dr. med. Hugo Jurty (the bespectacled Gauleiter at right).

Best wishes and Welcome Aboard,
~ Mike Miller / ABR

Thanks Mike, and thanks for your efforts with this forum and the ABR site - they really are great resources. Here are two more pics - this time of Dr. Todts funeral. (I purchased all of these from Detlev Niemann a couple of years ago :) ). I have a number of portrait postcards of political/military leaders and KC winners. Let me know and I'll email a list.
Best,
Rob
