The first photo shown is definately not of Todt's funeral no matter what Detlev says. The Todt funeral was a major affair held at the Reichschancellery in Berlin and his coffin was carried on gun carriage with luftwafe, Army and SS generals as honorary pall bearers to include Reichsleiter Karl Fiehler. The first photo shown has an honor guard of DAF members wearing pre-wartime uniforms. This photo was taken pre-1939 and couldn't possibly be of Todt's funeral.

Re: Was Fritz Todt SS member?
Hello everybody : I recently found a book in German entitled " Fritz Todt - Baumeister des Dritten Reich" The book is in German which makes it a little hard going for me. I am aware of that there was a strong suspicion that the plane crash resulting in Todt's death was not an accident. Milch is quoted in the book saying that sabotage was possible but not proven. Hans Baur is said to have told Hitler that the plane came from a Luftwaffe unit at the front and that each machine was equipped with a 'Flugzeugzerstörer' which was a 1 kg of Dynamite in a small casing which could be actived by a pull ring. This was provided to prevent sensitive documents falling into enemy hands. By inference, Baur seems to be suggesting that this is what probably caused the crash. An examination of the wreckage did not reveal any deficiences and also the weather was not a factor although the pilot had chosen not to land with a tailwind.
This is the first that I have heard of the 'Flugzeugzestörer Kästchen' although the concept does not surprize me. Were these devices commonly carried by the Luftwaffe and does anyone have information about them being used to prevent documents falling into the wrong hands? I know that there were many instances of crews on both sides trying to destroy their downed aircraft by fire. It would be interesting to see a picture of such a device. In the book is a picture of Todts Landhaus in Hintersee bei Berchtesgarten - does anyone know if this house is still standing ?
Cheers

Yes, the Todt house at Hintersee is still there. It is the "Altes Zollhaus," or Old Customs House.
It is shown about halfway down on this page - http://www.thirdreichruins.com/miscbldgs3.htm

Excellent photos Geoff...I have visited your website countless times and must have missed these. I 100% agree that the photos / films of the naked bather are of Gretl, not Eva.
Getting back to Todt, how far was his chalet from the Berghof (or the other homes of interest such as Speer's, Bormann's, or Goering's)? Were these all located off of the same road?

Re: Was Fritz Todt SS member?
The Todt house at Hintersee is about 18 km from the Berghof (so Google Maps tells me - past the other side of Berchtesgaden, and on past Ramsau (so not close at all, really).
The other houses were all on the Obersalzberg, off the same road (main road going up there out of Berchtesgaden). Bormann's house overlooked the Berghof, and Göring's house was just over the hill (sort of beyond Bormann's house - Bormann made sure he was the closest). Speer's house is a little further away, but only about 1 km distant. It's off the same road, down the road a short distance toward Berchtesgaden.

Here are some photos from the 1943 book, 'Fritz Todt. Der Mensch, Der Ingenieur, Der Nationalsozialist'. The title page gives all his posts and ranks and there is no mention of SS membership.
