Simon -- These are pretty basic, but at least they give some idea of the boundaries. They are taken from ed. Gutman, Israel, Encyclopedia of the Holocaust, McMillan Publishing, New York: 1990, pp. 1041 and 1243:

The maps you privide are indeed basic David Thompson. And sincerely I don't have any others to present. So I shall make a few comments on the Polish map presented.

1-The border between Slovakia and Poland had two small modifications around the Tatra Mountains both in the west (high Orova) and in the east (Zips). These territories belonged to Hungary till the Treaty of Trianon gave them to Poland. In 1939 they were immediately ascribed to Slovakia.

2-In the part annexed by the USSR most of the towns are referred by Russian names (the majority including Lvov) which is somewhat incoherent.

3-The same goes to the part annexed by Lithuania. Vilna is the Russain name of the town but Poles speak of Wilna and Lithuanians of Vilnius.

4-Interestling is that on the other hand in the German annexed part all the names of the towns are in Polish...

viriato -- Good maps from this period are very hard to find. I've had to use old maps from the Austro-Hungarian Empire period to find some of the towns I've read about, and some of them have four different names (German, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian). It certainly doesn't make research any easier.

I had the same problem finding a good map for those territories under German occupation and/or those territories annexed by Germany. The one below is the best I have at the moment and I already have presented it to this forum once. It was downlowed from this website:

The map of Ostland shown in this thread is the same I've seen also in other sites or historic atlases, but in an Italian atlas printed in January 1943 showing the political borders of June 1942 I've found this map (as you can see, the borders of Ostland are quite different):

May you tell me which maps you need, please? I'll try to find them. Maybe you'll like the maps I've posted in this thread: http://www.thirdreichforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=28149.
