POW Camps in Germany

Postby Satori on 21 Jun 2012 21:29

Hello, I am trying to do some research regarding life in Germany's POW camps. I can find lots of books and articles discussing the prisoners and what they had to endure but little on the men who had to guard them. I'm looking for details like: the ratio of guards to prisioners, types of men who were selected for guard duty, duty hours, what they ate, and so forth. If anyone could give me some information or guide me to a book or other resource, I would be very grateful.

Try Google. This is a well-covered subject. All you have to do is invest some time on Google. The camp guards were provided by the Heer and Luftwaffe Landesschützen-Bataillonen - i.e., older age group men 35-45 and invalids. They ate the same rations as the rest of the German armed forces.

Thank you Larry D but I have been searching the internet and booklistings without success. I was hoping for more detailed information.
