Berlin City Business Directory

Postby Geoff Walden on 02 Jul 2012 16:17

Not sure if this is the right section to post this - moderators, feel free to move it elsewhere if there's a better place.

I am looking for a Berlin city business directory from the early 1960s or late 1950s (or even 1945). I am looking for the exact street address of the Weigmann freight forwarding company or shipping company. The company was located on Invalidenstrasse in the early 1960s, and possibly in 1945.

Does anyone have such a directory in their collection, or know of an online source (I couldn't find this company online, except possibly its successor in Tempelhof (and other Berlin addresses) today)?

Hi Geoff,

The Geneology department of Berlin have such things as all kinds of directories.

Not sure if this helps but

Here is a overview from the Weigman living in Berlin in 1943 (the latest of the adress books):

But which one might be a shipping company I don´t know. The professions behind the name doesn´t state that anyone of them is a shipping company or has a connection to freights or goods.

Thanks, Annelie and history1!

I didn't know of this resource. Too bad it ends at 1943! I spent some time perusing the entries for the Party and the Government.

I couldn't find the Weigmann firm either - apparently, it was not in business in 1943 (maybe not until the 60s). I did, however, find the entry that showed all the addressees along Invalidenstrasse, which helped me some, although Weigmann was not among them. I'll keep searching.
