WW2 Postal Service
WW2 Postal Service
I am attempting to research the postal service in Germany during the war. I found a photo of a Reichs Post stamp with Hitler's picture on. What I need to know is: Was there an international postal service into/out of Germany during WW2.
Specifically, would a postcard posted in Germany in 1943, addressed to Ireland, have made it through to its destination?
Thanks

Re: WW2 Postal Service
I should have posted this in the research section. My apologies. I will repost it there.

I don't have the necessary permission (?) to post over there.

Hello JJToner,
This IS a research section. I just don't think anyone with the knowledge has seen your post yet. However, I'll check into why you're unable to post in the Axis Documents section, since your general membership should allow you to post in any of the sections.
There was international postal service into and out of Germany during the war, at least to friendly or neutral countries, though wartime conditions would have determined how quickly, or if, the post got through. See for example the cover I've posted below (a mourning cover sent from Germany to Sweden). As for it being possible for mail from Germany to be sent to Ireland, I'd think that would have been possible for the Republic-- at least theoretically -- since the Republic was neutral. I don't know whether there was a blockade from either of the belligerents that would have prevented it in fact, though.
Best regards,
