Your knife is almost certainly a paper knife / letter opener.
I have an almost identical example except that it is inscribed "New Guinea 1944" on one side and on the other, a personal message to my mother who was an VAD/AAMWS nurse stationed near Port Moresby, New Guinea.
She said it was made and given to her by an Australian soldier she had nursed.
If I can find it :roll: , I'll post a pic.
