Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Max, hi Alan,
To Your ID: "Whenever I see a German truck with the rear "tailgate" opening sideways like that and six wheels I always guess Einheitsdiesel and sometimes I'm even correct." That´s an absolutely right remark. But where is here the "tailgate" opening sideways?
For me it is a Pionier-Kraftwagen I (engineer motor vehicle I), identifiable by the benches in the middle and the storage compartments at the front and the rear of the platform (source of the information: Holger´s site http://www.kfzderwehrmacht.de). I think that it is a Henschel type 33, because that was the most usual type used by the engineer units. Interesting the contents of the right storage compartment: ten teller mines (Tellerminen), anti-tank mines. The trailer behind the truck could be a Pontonwagen Pf. 11 (pontoon wagon). Here a pic of such a truck and the trailer behind it (source of the pic: "Lastkraftwagen der Wehrmacht" by Reinhard Frank.
Regards
Bert

Hi John:
I am pretty sure this one is a Horch 830BL Kfz17 radio car. See below.

One for Bill I would imagine.
Not military I know, but what is this vast "ship"?
From an eBay auction.
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Kerry, you do come up with some odd ones.
The vehicle appears to be a 1942 Pontiac. Not a year model I would expect to see anywhere in Europe and the photo would have had to be taken elsewhere or if in Europe, post war. 1942 was a very short production year and most vehicles went to the US armed forces as staff vehicles.
In any case, it is nice that my computers are now back to 99.9% and I am feeling a bit more perky and today has been a good day for Identification.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thank you much, Bert! That's it for sure. Also you identified those mines which puzzled me as well.SIS 5 wrote:Hi Max, hi Alan,

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Looks to me like a captured ZIS 5 with a very unusual trailer.
Example below.

Hi irregularmedic, hi Bill,
well done, as usual, Bill. To the trailer: it is a captured Russian field kitchen, the type "КП 3 - 37".
Best regrads

Re: Vehicle identity requests
You are truly a marvel, Bert.
I know absolutely nothing about trailers in general and certainly not Russian ones.
And...I manage to wrongly identify Russian trucks about one in five times.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thanks gentlemen!
I couldn't tell if it was a trailer or partially obscured vehicle! I'm kind of surprised I didn't recognize the field kitchen, you'd think the Soviets must have had hundreds of them, but I don't think they show up much in period photos. Either that, or I never noticed them before because they weren't tanks!

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi kerry:
Based primarily on the wheels with 4 holes and the design of the windscreen, I believe this is a 1930 Opel Blitz 1.5 tonner.
