Hi Guys,

Reviving an old thread here, but I did a search for SdKfz 261 before starting my own thread.

There have been a series of photos on ebay recently of this relatively rare vehicle, which I thought I would share. The series of photos shows a group of 261s on the journey from Frankfurt an der Oder on 27-9-1943 to Minsk, arriving 3-10-1943, and the next few days at Minsk where the vehicles "finally rejoin the Regiment" according to the descriptions on the back.

Anyone know the unit making this journey?

Hope someone finds them interesting!

Cheers
Steve

Hi Francy,

Sorry, but those nice images are of SdKfz 223s, as they have a turret and are armed.

Nice images anyway,

Cheers
Steve

Hi guys,

Patrice, nice image of a field modification of gun shield and MG from a SdKfz 250 or 251, good find! Looks like unarmed doesn't apply to all 261s.

Here are a few more picked up from ebay; supposedly Das Reich, but I'm not really confident about that, shame they aren't a little clearer....

Cheers

and three more from ebay, the first is a SdKfz 260. The second comes from the same source as the Frankfurt-Minsk trip, but from earlier, June 1943. The last one has a SdKfz 222 behind it.

all from ebay

Thanks for all of those interesting photos, guys.
While I do not collect on armoured vehicles, this particular one has always fascinated me in that it just looks so right. Sort of the prototypical light armoured recon car. Short wheelbase (compact), good mobility, good turn of speed for what it was and I love the arrangement of the armour.
Also, Steve, nice shot of the towing dolly which one almost never sees photos of.
Cheers
Bill

Hi guys,

Two more images of the damaged vehicle - had them filed somewhere else!? It seems one is a larger scan of the other but they each give some nice details, so I'll post both.

Thanks for the clue on the towing dolly Bill, I wasn't too sure what it was.

Cheers
