The official AHF Panzers & other vehicles quiz thread

Discussions on the vehicles used by the Axis forces.
Long-time forum member Ron Klages (1939 - 2007) generously shared his knowledge and the results of his impressive research with the forum, and this section has therefore been renamed in his honour.

Hi Alan:

I believe that is one of the "nicknames" of this appliance.
It is an armoured train built by Ansaldo for use in Jugoslavia. This one had a Breda 24/65 AA gun and up to 8 machine guns, 4 per side.

Regarding your earlier comment about trucks and now trains, I wonder, in all seriousness, if it is not time to again visit the question of splitting up this quiz into a strictly armoured and /or combat vehicle section and one for soft skins such as cars/trucks/trailers/horsedrawn equipment etc.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you, Markus and many others putting up with my posting of 95% softskin questions, since that is my area of research, on a thread that should cover more than that, particularly combat vehicles which is such a huge field in itself.

I suppose the counterpoint is that we all learn more about each other's disciplines but I do notice it ends up in sometimes a long run of one or the other type of subject matter which may discourage others from jumping in.
Recently, it has been so that 4 or 5 members are doing the majority of the postings on this thread.

Not trying to cause problems, just asking.

Over to you Amigo.

Cheers

Bill

Hi Alan and Guys:

Well, Alan's hints were pretty good and I had a chance to do some looking.

I found a modelling site that had a coloured line drawing of an Italian armored train composed of an armoured engine, a couple of armoured train waggons, an AB43 armoured car all on the rails. At the end of this setup was a quite standard OM36 Autocaretta which seemed a bit odd.

A bit of research on this vehicle yielded the following photo, the complete photo of Alan's teasers.
Edit: Source is below.
Cheers

The very thing Bill, that silly "foot" they fitted to enable it to reverse its course on the railway line does take the sting out of all thsoe "more reverse gears" jokes we have heard about Italian vehicles, over to you.

Bill
Encyclopedia of German Tanks of World War Two has it as "Gepanzerter Munitionsschlepper (VK 302)
aka Sonderschlepper B III. Comes with wooden mock-up of 10.5 cm LG l/32 recoiless rifle.
Although I am not sure about the LG l/32 part.

Nailed it Bill. Quite the odd ball and apparently one of a pair, the other with a 5cm gun.

Quick turnaround and over to you for the next one.

Bill etal.
Thank You.
This one according to my source has a sub class ie., Sd.Kfz _/_. Also need name of what it's towing.
That may keep it from being answered in 10 nano seconds.
What it's carrying is optional.

Bill, I can give you half of the answer, that is an SdKfz 7/6 Flakmesstruppenkraftwagen which would normally tow something like the Kommandogerät 40 but that lump of kit under a tarp could be anything.

Alanmccoubrey
True, but judging by trailer type it would be a Kommandogerät 36. So I will concede defeat as I am only 90% sure.
So over to you Sir..

Hi Alan

Krupp Protze (Sf.) with 3,7 cm Pak, (semi-)armoured with 8 mm Skoda plates as proposed by Lt. Kaiser of Geb.Pz.Jäg.Abt. 44 and used by the unit?

Regards,
Markus
