Railtrucks

Hello all,

I came across this photo of a Merc railtruck. It show the truck in Amsterdam on May 7th 1945, Dutch civil guards using it to transport German soldiers from their barracks to Amsterdam central station to send them home.

Rail trucks posted on this forum earlier not always had number plates, seemed to have a narrower track that the road version and sometimes seemed to have modified front wings etc. See: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... a&start=15 ; http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... &start=660 )

The photo makes me wonder whether all the railtrucks could be converted back to road trucks easily by just changing wheels or that the truck on the photo never was used on ordinary railtracks but is more a multipurpose vehicle that not only could be used for transport of persons and goods was also could pull and push wagons on railroad/tramway tracks laid in tarmac.

Any suggestions?
Best regards and happy new year
Kees
