'Hitler's Mercedes' tracked down for Russia billionaire

A German antique car dealer claims he has tracked down a Mercedes convertible owned by Adolf Hitler.
The Dusseldorf-based dealer, Michael Froelich, says he found the car locked in a collector's garage.
He verified the ownership of the dark blue Mercedes 770K using the vehicle's original documents and old photos.
After the war, the car was sold in Austria, before being shipped to a car museum in Las Vegas, and then returning to Germany.
The German news agency, DPA, said the car weighs five tonnes because of its armour-plating - including bodywork in 18mm-gauge steel, and 4cm thick windows.
The agency said the car had been ordered in 1935 and was a familiar sight on newsreels showing the Nazi leader reviewing his troops.
The dealer, Michael Froelich, told the Cologne-based Express newspaper: "On Wednesday I got a tip-off whom it had been sold to. It belonged to a private collector and was in a garage in Bielefeld (in western Germany).
"I checked with prosecutors... whether the deal was illegal. They raised no objections as long as there were no Nazi symbols visible."
Mr Froelich claims he is working on behalf of an unnamed Russian billionaire who is also interested in buying several other cars which belonged to Nazi officials.
Press reports claimed Hitler's car itself was worth between four and 10m euros ($6-15m; £3.6-9m).

Evening friends:

I am far, far from an expert on vehicles used by Hitler or other high German officials but........

Based on the reference material I have, which is fairly extensive, Mercedes amongst other companies, sold a large number of "parade" type vehicles to the German Government after the RW period.

Some were armoured, some were not, but I suspect the majority of them were to be assigned by the "Party" to a wide range of officials not necessarily restricted to Hitler. As posted above, not only the 770 series Benz but also the G4.

There is a huge amount of photographic evidence of Hitler, amongst others, riding in a specific Mercedes or other such vehicle that are part of the history of the era.

To suggest that any such vehicle was used excusively by Hitler or any other high functionary in the Third Reich is a bit of a reach as far as I can see. In other words, to claim a price of 9 million dollars for a car that is called a "Hitler" car is probably stretching the truth a bit. The car may well be worth a hell of a lot of money just because it is very rare but I think not worth a premium that the seller is asking.

Just some thoughts.

Bill

I thought HItler drove around mostly only in a G4 - a 6 wheeled open top car?

Perhaps he used others when he arrived by air

Hello Larry

Hitler was not driving all te time in the Mercedes-Benz G4 three-axle vehicles but he used also the first type of the Mercedes-Benz Nürburg, the first series of the Mercedes-Benz 770 W07 , the Mercedes-Benz W24 540K Experimental and the Grosser Mercedes-Benz W150 770!

Sander, the three Mercedes-Benz G4 cars on your photos are not original cars, they were built brand new !!

Only one closed body is original and it comes from the Mercedes-Benz G4 that we know today as a Open Tourenwagen of the Sinsheim museum in Germany.

This car was found in Prague was original, the put of the closed body and built a replica Open Tourenwagen body on it, the closed body was sold to the USA.

With the prewar years or Hitler have these cars nothing to do!

The 770 W150 Grosser Mercedes of the car dealer Froelich of the article is one of the 770 collection from the Imperial Palace Collection in Las Vegas , the were sold to the Dutchman Ettiene Veen.
The 770 cars came from England to Germany and were sold by the German oldtimer dealer Mirbach, I visit Mirbach several times and I could see the cars in the garage.
Also the 770 of the article, the dealer told a strange story about the car, but the car is known for a long time and also the cars history is known for years.
Like the other 770 cars was it for sale for a couplle of years.

Like the Mercedes-Benz G3a also as a Staffcar from Hitler or Lindemann on the marked is written many strange storys, the car was a truck and nothing else, please belief not all the storys about the Hitler Mercedes Benz cars.

Like the golden Mercedes-Benz 540K from Eva Braun known of many articles are many vehicles fake or have a totally other history.

Nice photo. I first saw that photo many years ago. The photo black/white photo shows an all black car, but that car is actually blue with black fenders (judging by the licence plate#). Also that wasn't the car he used on his 1939 birthday parade. The actual car had a different plate number that he used in 1939 on his birthday.

In my opinion this is the most beautiful Mercedes ever made & one of the most beautiful machines on tires I have ever seen.

On the photo the Grosser Mercedes , W150 Offener Tourenwagen on 6 July 1940, in Berlin, in the parade that celebrated the fall of France.

The car that Hitler used on his birthday in 1939 was the Mercedes-Benz with the licencenumber IA-148768.

Actually the one he used on his birthday had a different license# If I recall the last three digits were 754 unless he switched up during the 1939 birthday parade.

The car that Hitler used on his birthday in 1938 was the Mercedes-Benz with the licencenumber IA-148768.

I have several photos of the car during his birthday parade, all with this number IA-148768.
