Hi Ilya,
excellent ID. The exact designation is type "4,5 LHG 448". Here a good pic of this truck out of the book "VOMAG - Eine Legende in Bildern" by Christian Suhr and Ralf Weinreich.

thanks for a good illustrative picture. Note the absence of a part of a cabin near the gasifier column (in Norway). The identification was easier because I've already read about something similar in "Za rulem" magazine, #19 of 1940 (an online version here, it seems that the front grille is different), but I was not sure about 444 or 448 modification. What was the difference? Length of the body?

"At the last Vienna Austoshow two new gasified vehicles were shown.
On the 1st image a Vomag 5-ton truck is depicted, which uses a 100 hp diesel modified for wood gas. Its gas-producer unit is well-installed, generating minimal extra air resistance." - VOMAG from ZR, small.JPG (16.56 KiB) Viewed 2341 times

Re: Wood gas vehicles: firewood in the fuel tank
Hy Ilya , privet,
thank You very much for Your reply. The difference between type 448 and 444 was the wheel base:
the designation 444 or 448 means: both with a four cylinder motor, and then the different wheel base: 44 = 4,40m, 48 = 4,80m.
Here a pic of the shorter type 4,5 LHG 444 dump truck (source of the pic: "VOMAG - Eine Legende in Bildern" by Christian Suhr and Ralf Weinreich).

Although it is often stated that gas-producers were only to be used in rear echelon situations, this convoy has all the appearance of a forward area movement.
