IMHO, the German Soldier is a signals officer (see shoulder straps and the patch on his arm), the solder behind him should be a Bulgarian officer, the other men are serbian soldiers. So the picture would be taken in April 1941 during the Balkans campaign.Maxschnauzer wrote:But I'm equally curious aout the nationality of the soldiers in the pic with the Wehrmacht NCO.

Re: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Thanks for the info, Reichskriegsgericht! From the apprehensive looks on their faces I thought they must be POW's.
Cheers,
Max

You are right, the serbian soldiers are POW. The Bulgarians and Germans however were Allies and fought together in that campaign.Maxschnauzer wrote:Thanks for the info, Reichskriegsgericht! From the apprehensive looks on their faces I thought they must be POW's.
Re: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Hi Kerry,
to Your question about the motorcycle (16th January): Your suspicion is right: it is an Austrian motorcycle, a Puch 792ccm with a horizontally mounted opposed 4 cylinder engine, built 1936 - 1938. About 550 were produced for the Austrian army and other departments. Here a pic (source of the information and the pic: "Von A wie Ardie bis Z wie Zündapp" by Horst Hinrichsen.
Regards
Bert

Hi Alif,
to Your question about the motorcycle (also 16th January): it is also an Austrian Puch, her it could be the type GS 350ccm, built 1938. Here also a pic from the same source: "Von A wie Ardie bis Z wie Zündapp" by Horst Hinrichsen.

Great! Thank you Bert...
Re: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Hello Bert,
Thank you for the reply. However, the engine set-up is very different to mine, but I went to a Puch site and think I found the exact model. I think the 'bike is a 500cc Luxus of 1938 or so. It has a 2-cylinder, in-line, two-stroke engine.
What do you think? Certainly without your push in the right direction I would still be lost, so, many, many thanks once again,
All the best,
Kerry.
