Re: The Pz Kw I in Poland 1939.
Mates,
As an old Tank commander what concerns me more is the German Tank commanders sticking out of there Turrets.
I don't know about there tank losses, but their commander losses must have been high. (reminds me of the high Israili tank commander losses during the Six day war due to this same problem).
One of the first things I was taught was not to stick your body outside the turret, other wise "bang" you dead. ( I saw the resault of this a number of times when a Tank/Armoured veh) would roll over on rough ground trapping or killing the commander in his turret).
Evan in friendly areas you never stand up in the turret?
The photo by Raul "German armored column of the PR 31 (5. Pz Div), in the lead a Pz Kw I followed by a Pz Kw II" shows the Pz1 commander down in his turret (correctly) while the Pz 11 stands up?

Sources: https://forum.odkrywca.pl/topic/721701- ... %C4%87-14/What strikes me is that "cage" onto the superstructure and would appear as a reinforcement for combat into the towns (especially for getting across porches and walls ??).

What it looks like to me is a frame to carry and launch a bundle of logs, called a facine, into an anti-tank ditch to enable crossing.

Thanks for that tip Roland . It seems to me something home-made isn´t it? .Cheers.Raúl M .

Looks like field workshop modification . Makes sense to remove after expending the Facine bundle and restore to normal battle tank.
