► Soft Skinned Vehicles
Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
I saw this photo and found it a fantastically evocative shot. Kubel, halftracks, horses and a Jeep, I do not know if this is the correct thread, but I thought others may like to see it, it was purportedly taken somewhere outside Stalingrad.

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Nice find Kerry:
I think it is also a good "snapshot" of the logistic/supply/repair difficulties the Germans faced in Russia particularly.
Food and a vet for the horses, parts and mechanics for Russian, German and American vehicles.
I cannot identify the uniforms so do not know if these vehicles are under German or Russian control, but if they are captured vehicles other than the Gaz AA and the Jeep, now the problem becomes a Russian one.

Not to beat the point to death, but I would bet this photo was taken before hostilities began.
That Adler was already obsolete before 1939 and the smiling faces do not indicate a wartime scenario.
Too bad I don't know anything about WH registration plates, that may give us a date range.
Bill
I can't find a date for this numberplate but it is given out for use for the "Wehrkreis V Stuttgart=WH 50.000-59.999"

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Hi Sturm:
Thanks very much for that photo, the only one I have ever seen with that variation of what seems to be the "standard cab".
In fact, I only have two photos in my files of an Opel with that cab and my two very good reference books only have the tanker truck with the "standard cab". All other photos I have seen on the net, maybe only 6 or so, all show a much taller and perhaps narrower windscreen.
Good find.

Hi Sturm:
Yes, the German variant 1938/1939 with one piece windscreen. Possibly ex civilian/requisitioned or RAD.

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Hi Sturm 78, hi Bill,
thanks a lot from me, too, for that photo. A real good find. I was looking for pics of Opel 3-tonners with such a soft cab and I could find two other pics with this special soft cab (source of the pics: expired ebay auctions). I think, that could be a special version produced for the police in a small number, because the flatbed is looking a little bit like that.
Best regards
Bert
