Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Despite being a horribly composed and executed photo I find this fascinating. It is, I believe, an uncommon Phanomen Granit 25H kubel, with a fierce-looking crew. The logo on the door places it in the war years, probably in the early days in France and Belgium. Whether it is a personal insignia or from a known unit, I have no notion. I hope you find it as interesting as I do,
Kerry.

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
John,
No, the uniforms are Wehrmacht, but the logo does show a skeleton riding a bomb, which suggests Luftaffe. Stolen car? "Borrowed"? It is a puzzle to me too.

Looking again, if it is a bomb, the skeleton is facing backwards. Perhaps it is an artillery shell and the troops are artillerymen.

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Hi Kerry,
I was looking for all the emblems of the squadrons of Luftwaffe, but I couldn´t find a similar logo. There are figures riding a bomb, but always in an up - down direction.
To the car: I don´t think that it is a Phänomen Granit 25: I assume that it is a Stoewer type M 12. Please, have a look on Holger´s site. There are pics of both cars.
Regards
Bert

Re: Soft Skin Vehicle Photo Repository
Bert,
I bow to your identification, I was mesmerised by the vent louvres on the bonnet sides and missed some other ID points, like the lack of louvres on the top. As I said in the post before, I also doubted Luftwaffe ownership, but do not know what unit is represented, but it is reasonably certain that it is Wehrmacht,
Kerry.

Hi Sturm 78,
on Your pic is either the type M 27 a or the type M 30 a. But it is nearly impossible to say which one is on Your pic because You don´t see the whole vehicle. Here the differences between these two types:
tyres: 7,00-20 (M 27a), 7,25-20 (M 30a)
front track: 1675mm (M 27a), 1622mm (M 30a)
wheelbase: 4250mm (M 27a), 4500mm (M 30a)
loading space: 3800x2100mm (M 27a), 4200x2100mm (M 30a)
length: 3800mm (M 27a), 4200mm (M 30a)

The guy in picture seems to be a new recruit on the way to marching drill or something.
Look how his boots shine!

Here is another of the soft-top Blitzes. The registration is in the same series as the earlier example, possibly even the same truck.

I have some extra info about your Mercedes-Benz L4500 A :
The divisional sign on the left front fender is from Schw. Pz. Abt. 512. I suppose you know the video fragment from the "Iserlohn surrender" (Youtube) of what was left of the 512th. In that video you can see a MB L4500 A driving with the Jagdtigers on the big Square. That MB has the same superstructure as on your photo so it is even possible that the MB-truck on the video is the same one...
One can also see on that video a Steyr 1500 driving into the Square. In one of the Panzerwrecks-books there is a clear photo of the side of this Steyr. The divisional sign is the same as on the MB L4500 A.
Greetz,
Bert
