Re: Schwimmwagen pictures and comments
This something really strange. Do somebody knows the purpose of the extra "wheels"? Maybe the car didn´t had the out-board engine to push it in water, so those wheels acted to propulse in water, like some ships on 19th century?
Thanks

I would think that they are an experimental form of propulsion.

Re: Schwimmwagen pictures and comments
The Schwimmwagen did not have an "outboard engine", it used a screw attached to the car engine. And I think the crew is still on the vehicle in that photo because the hook that was used to lower and rise the screw can be seen above the exhaust pipe behind the passenger seats.

Hi Arto, hi Alan, hi Harro,
in the book "Volkswagen MIlitärfahrzeuge 1938 - 1948" by Hans-Georg Mayer-Stein I have found a pic of the same Schwimmwagen. On this pic You can see, that it was a test for a better drive in the snow, in the book called "Raupenfahrzeug". It might be in the Alps 1942 (Lafatscher Joch, Austria).
Regards
Bert

Thanks Alan, Harro and SIS 5,
SIS 5, I think you sent the answer. I was thinking in some moment about driving on rocks, but on snow never. Interesting. I wonder how were the results about the experiment.

That's interesting. It seems to be a Vorserie Schwimmwagen (the Porsche series).
