► Photothread: Schwimmwagen pictures and comments

This Schwimmwagen belongs to 7./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.24 "Danmark". Most likely it is one from 2.Zug, since SS-Ustuf Robert Hansen is sitting on the spare tire smoking his pipe and he was the platoon commander at the time. This photo was taken in Croatia during the autumn of 1943. Unfortunately the exact place and date are unknown to me.

Two following two pictures are also of SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.24 "Danmark". These as well were taken in Croatia in the autumn of 1943. They depict some action in an unknown place and unknown date, possibly at two different times.
The first picture shows four Schwimmawagen in a motorized column. The second with dismounted crew.

Hi,

Seemed to have missed this older thread completely, but it has surfaced again due to some recent input, great photos, but one on page 1, about half-way down, a colour photo of a "restored" Schwimmwagen, does anybody know the whereabouts of this vehicle or the origins of the photo.

Over the years this photo has appeared on several different mlitrary vehicle threads and it is always captioned something like this one is saying "possibly the best Schwimmwagen ever" or similar words.

It may look pretty but in fact its a very, very inaccurate restoration, can anybody give more information about this vehicle and its current whereabouts and why it is always called "....the best...." when it clearly is not.

Many thanks for the information, now all is clear, as pretty as it is in this thread, its a pre-restoration photo, the restoration has corrected all of the faults that can be seen in the photo on this thread, and it looks really good.
