Does the info I posted above look correct other than the less-than-current-best-knowledge "Jagdpanzer 38(d)" should be translated to "Jagdpanzer 38 D" ? I think when this book was published a couple of years ago that the "38(d)" designation was thougth to be correct, and now it sounds like Jentz has unearthed the correct "38 D" designation?

I have some of the Panzer Tracts issues, but it sounds like I need to complete my collection.
The information seems to be overall correct, with some minor faults. In any case, you should seriously consider investing in the volumes you don't already have.

I'm not sure about how long the correct designation has been known, but if the author had thought about it a little, he would have realised that it couldn't be the correct designation.

i am wondering what that main armament of the

28cm Sturmmörser 38 D

was ... it is not in my list of mortars. but i found this reference

a mortar of 28cm did not leave the drawing board at skoda, building of a specimen was not undertaken.

source: hahn, "waffen und geheimwaffen" p.74

so little developement but yet they were gonna use it on the 38 D chassis... ???

who knows more??

I haven't seen that variant mentioned anywhere.

I have both volumes, actually, but I also know that there are several errors in them, as well as several omissions of weapons. I would hardly call it a 'standard reference'...

Here are some drawings of what was to be

Jagdpanzer 38 D (with 75mm KwK L/70, above it a Hetzer with KwK L/70)

and

Flakpanzer 38 D Kugelblitz

one can see how it featured a lengthened hetzer chassis. this - together with the elemination of the guns recoil mechanism - resolved a nuissance of the hetzer, the crammed crew compartment. it was also wider (track width 425mm instead of 350mm).

for the second half of 1945 it was planned to produce 1925 JagdPz 38 D und 1700 AufklPz 38 D.
