Hello all

I found a interesting pic in ebay. In one way a well known typ but in the other way a unknown typ.

I think its clear shown a Einheitsdiesel, but I never saw on pics a company sign on the radiator. Here its "MAN Diesel"

Is this a export to one of the axis states? For me its a unknown car-plate too!

Who get informations? Hans whats about you ?

best regards
Henning

Hi Henning:

It's Bulgarian.
Carius (George) has the same photo in the Minor Axis Nations Bulgarian section "Bulgarian Army Photos" or something like that.

Hi all,

here another pic. It seems to be the same type of a light truck, but this time the truck has a closed cab. Source: expired ebay auction.
Maybe You can ID this vehicle now. Thanks in advance.

Bert:

I believe both of the last two vehicles are of the marque Steyr.
Holger identifies them as 540 and 740 on his site, Spielberger identifies them as 40 and 740 in his book on Austrian vehicles.

Hi Bill,

thank You very much for Your help. With the ID of this truck I could look for more information about these trucks. In the book "LKW aus Steyr" by Karl-Heinz Rauscher and Franz Knogler there were more informations, but unfortunately no pic:
type 540 or 40 N: 60 produced in 1936
type 740: 350 produced in 1937 - 1939.
So I think that these trucks on the pics are the type 740.

Thanks again.

Bert

Bert:
Here is a nice clear image of a 740 ambulance which shows the unique louvers in the side of the motor hood.

Thank you Bill for your help.

Do you know if the bulgarian bought also Einheitsdiesel from the other production factorys like Borgward, MB ...?
I ask if there are other pics with Einheitsdiesel and company signs?

best regards
Henning

Hi Henning:

I only have one reference book on Bulgarian vehicles but it does give some rather good data if rather poor photos.
The book says that 160 MAN einheits trucks were delivered in April 1940. No other marques are mentioned and the photos in the book of the truck all say "MAN". The bodywork seems to me to be different than the standard body supplied to German forces.

Bulgaria purchased a very wide range of mainly German and Austrian soft skin vehicles from about 1935 up to 1944 according to the book.

Hi Bill,

thanks a lot for posting this excellent pic of this Steyr ambulance.

Here my next question: who can ID this vehicle with the caption "Kabelmesskraftwagen". (Source: expired ebay auction).

Regards

On this one, I would go with a Matford.
Note t he distinct way the grille mask blends back into the sides of the motor hood. Also, it appears to me that the main headlamps are built into the front mudguards.
Quite an unusual body, I must say, it looks quite dated.

Hi Bill and all others,

sorry, Bill, I totally forgot to thank You for Your answer. Matford is a good match, but the body is so uncommon, also for French vehicles. Maybe it´s a field modification. Who knows.

Here another quite dated vehicle I cannot ID. Maybe one of You can help me. Thanks in advance.

I really have no concrete idea.
Looks like a civilian ambulance or police vehicle to me.
The closest I have come so far is a faint resemblance to an early Steyr 40 but I am certainly not certain of that.
Edit 29/11/11. Well, maybe, what do you think??

Hi Bill,

thank You very much for the support. After all I think You are very close with Your ID. But I cannot decide it is right or wrong. You know the Austrian vehicles are not my strong point. The last questions from me were all applied to Austrian vehicles.
