Vehicle identity requests

Discussions on the vehicles used by the Axis forces.
Long-time forum member Ron Klages (1939 - 2007) generously shared his knowledge and the results of his impressive research with the forum, and this section has therefore been renamed in his honour.

Hi all. I have been looking at houndreds of photoes of german ww2 trucks/lkw`s but yet I have not manage to find out what vehicle is my front cooler/grill from. I have startet to believe it might be from a ww2 tracktor or a electric/power aggregate? I did find the parts in a german workers camp where they built the railway in northern norway during the war period. On the place I did also find the mudgards and the gas tank, see photoes.

What do you think this could be?

Hi Henning:

Looks to be a German Ford 1937-1939 with a coachbuilt body. I will look further during the day to see if I can ID the coachbuilder.

Cheers

Hi Hennin, hi Bill,

sorry, Bill, when I got there before You. It is a Ford "Eifel" cabriolet model 1938/39.
Here a pic out of the book "Deutsche Autos 1920 - 1945" by Werner Oswald.

Regards

Bert

A soldier's snapshot via e-bay. The vehicle has been tentatively identified on the HMVF as an Auto Union Wanderer W24. Having found this Axis History Forum, I wondered if you would like to see the photo too, and possibly confirm/deny the ID...

Hi John:

Looks pretty good to me as a W24.
Even though a lot of details are hard to see, the following match.
Position of door handle.
Style of bumper.
Moulding line below the windows.
Hard to see but it looks like the typical motor hood louvers for that car.
I wish I could be more definitive, but that's about what I see.
Edit: Sorry, the mounting of the spare on the rear trunk/boot is also typical of this car.
Cheers

Many thanks, Bill, for the confirmation re being a W24. Unfortunately, the car was moving when the photo was taken, so the number plate is blurred. I think I can see 'WH' painted at the rear though. The car has been militarised by the addition of a Notek light and what looks to me like a long-handled spade in front of the rear wing. I wonder how long the car lasted on active service...

Hi PapaG:

Your vehicle should be a German Tempo 1200. I am not sure what country is using the vehicle in your photo but they were used by several armies. You rarely see a photo of one with the top up like yours.

Cheers

Hi all,

have found a pic of a "mittlerer Einheits-PKW" (ebay expired auction) with a special cargo modification. Can anybody tell me what special vehicle this was? Thanks in advance.
