Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
I'm pretty shure style of house roofing is from Bosnia or west Serbia (near river Drina on Serbian side). But probably Bosnia.
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi,
I came across this airstrip tanker on a Czechosloval airfield.
Any ideas about its make/model. (probably post-war I have to admit)

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kees:
I am not able to give a complete answer just yet, but this much I can provide.
The truck is a British Ford Sussex 6X4. I know they were made after the war in this configuration.
Prewar, there were at least two very similar Ford trucks, both 4X2 in civilian versions.
The E88W was made from 1936-1939 and the 7V was made from 1937-1947.
I could be wrong, but I do not recall any of the COE Fords in the civilian versions being used as true military vehicles.
To be sure, conscripted vehicles may have found their way into military use and may have been modified in one way or another for such duties.
Like you, I suspect this may be a postwar vehicle, but most interesting in it's configuration and it's owner.
Cheers
Bill

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Norway (the army), would not have Chevvies of that model. Norway was invaded April 9th, 1940. Could have been a captured civilian one but the picture is not taken in Norway. Possibly the Balkans or Carpathians.Alanmccoubrey wrote:Kerry,I think that the guns may be 10,5 cm leFh 16's. I'm terrible with allied trucks but the grill makes me think Chevvie, did Norway buy Chevvies ?

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Well, well, look what I found..............
Two photos of a 1936 Sussex used at Arlanda Airport in Sweden until 1969.
Perhaps the mystery is solved.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Certainly not an easy angle, but can anyone say what this vehicle is? It looks vaguely umbau, and is early, judging by the wire wheels. There is also very good ground clearance.
Thanks,
Kerry

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thank you Andrej, that is very helpful.
Nice pragmatic use for the frame aerial, a clothes line!
The ground clearance is still strange though, the body looks to sit well above the wheel centre-line. I thought, as the wheels are chocked and the engine covers removed, that it may be jacked-up for repair. But, not too sensible to sit on a vehicle supported on a jack.
Thanks again,
Kerry.

Kerry, have you noticed that it has even had a frame antenna added around the roof ?
