Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thank you, so over 20 years old and still plugging away, fascinating.
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Incidentally, Kerry, the SA on the radiator is U.S.A.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
I was late on the Liberty truck, but here is a little clearer view of the "USA" on the grille.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thanks to you too Bill. Interestingly this has identified at least six more photos which I have of recently captured French army trucks. It is surprising how antiquated a large part of the French armed forces actually were, but then again the German forces also relied heavily on good old horse power right into 1945.

That's interesting. I can't see any of the illustrations on your reference but my research indicated that the M.17 was an artillery tractor: Source: http://landships.activeboard.com/t29798 ... ezugwagen/
Sturm's pic looks more like a self propelled gun. Do you have any legible pictures?

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Excellent Markus,
I see where the gun can be detached. So the prototype M.17 was basically a two wheeled artillery tractor w/ little dolly wheels! Very strange looking contraption indeed.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Here is another curious construction. It appears to be metal plates, with weapon ports, bolted, via tubular frame, to one(?) side of a truck, including inside the load-bed. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
That looks like an Opel Blitz to me and those are more like observation slits than weapons slots, they are too small to stick very much more than a pistol through. It belongs to the Luftwaffe so goodness knows what it is for.

Hi Kerry, hi Alan,
for me it looks like a Saurer type BT 4500. Here a pic of this truck (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).
