Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
I found one that amused me the other day Kerry, Adolf H with his pals waiting for the 58 bus at Reuil Malmaison, Paris

Nice shot Stuart!
I am not sure of the marque, but it is a good example of the uncompressed gas/city gas equipped vehicles used to a large degree in France.
That big addition on the top of the bus is where the gas was stored. One of many solutions to the lack of gasoline/petrol during and after the war.
Below is a poor photo of another Parisian bus with this equipment.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thank you both for that. I know that our interest is sometimes seen as perverse, but who could fail to find humour in these photos, or, I suspect, many pictures in peoples collections?
Best regards,
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Thank you Bill, most of those gas fuelled busses were variations of the Renault T6 C2 i think though yours says Tn 4. I don't know what was hidden under their enormous white roofs, I'd rather presumed that it was gas cylinders, but if as you say it was uncompressed gas it sounds as if it might have been stored in rubber bags? Old horsedrawn busses and coaches came out of mothballs too and homemade plywood "cyclocars" were popular, particularly with young men. I included a photograph of one in my book.

I have a few photos of cycle-based transport. I think this is one of the most humorous. An interesting way to carry your chairs, but it beat walking I guess,

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Well there's a thing Kerry. I have an action filled picture (this is just the ebay rough) of a similar sort of tricycle car, mine was taken during the flight from Paris:
It strikes me that one of these men is either reversing or sitting in his cyclocar backwards maybe just to fool the Germans into thinking he is leaving....!
On the other hand maybe he was running away from his wife? Nice hat though. It strikes me that one of these men is either reversing or sitting in his cyclocar backwards maybe just to fool the Germans into thinking he is leaving....!

Hi,
here a pic of a truck I cannot ID. I´m not able to decipher the inscription on the radiator mask. Maybe one of You can help me. Thanks in advance (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).

Re: Vehicle identity requests
And this it seems to have a Feild repair to the windscreen but as it has a wider cab than the normal v3000s they have used wood to bridge the gap

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Smiler:
From what I can see, they are all German Ford V 3000s variants.
Most seem to have non-standard drivers cabins which can mean field modifications or that they were civilian vehicles to begin with.
Given that they were produced after Germany was "well at war", I doubt many got to the civilian market so they were probably all modified.
On the other hand, we cannot see any registration plates so we don't know whether they might have been civilian in the beginning and I note that the original photo has the white fender/mudguard paint indicating a generally non combat zone. Do you know when the video was taken where you got the colour photo from??
